What is bacterial vaginosis

I went to the obgyn about a week ago and got a notification on my lab an dsaid I was positive for FGardnerella vaginalis. What does that mean ? And what is the cause of it is it an STI? Can I like reinfect myself after medication?

Bacterial Vaginosis is a minor bacterial infection. It is NOT an STI. Yes, sex can be a contributing factor, but you can get it from a variety of things such as douching, sitting in a wet swimsuit too long, etc. It’s very similar to a yeast infection in how you get it and what the symptoms are, but it’s treated differently.
Once treated, you should be good. Do abstain from sex until you are positive it’s completely gone.
