Should you recieve a higher wage if you arnt self isolating?

So I’m a healthcare assistant so I have no choice but to work I also have no children which means I am doing extra work so cover the people that do have kids so they can stay home. However I earn minimum wage which is hardly anything I work nights also which I think I should be entitled to more. We’re also at risk of lockdown which means on the day of lockdown night staff have to stay in the building for 14 days and cant leave which knowing my luck I will be on shift. I think we deserve extra money just for being in work. What does everyone else think?

Yes, for people working at stores that are hugely benefitting from panic buying and shortened store hours- less wages 
But the cashiers and employees are put at risk daily by having to work 
Any retail job that’s required to be open and have employees putting themselves at risk should be paying them more. 
I think healthcare no, when you sign up to be a healthcare professional you’re taking on the risk of working with people who are ill on a daily basis and therefore this is just one of the parts of the job you signed up for

And that would be like saying fire fighters should be paid more when they have to go into a fire vs responding to a 911 for a car accident 
Or cops should get higher wages when they go to a potentially dangerous call vs giving speeding tickets 
Healthcare professionals sign up to be at risk on the daily. That’s the job.

If that were the case, a lot of greedy people would choose not to self isolate for the sake of money and making an extra buck, not calling you greedy of course but just speaking in general, and things could be way worse than what it already is. Certain professions perhaps and yours where your profession is critical, but all and as a whole no.

I think you should make more than minimum wage. HHA or CNAs work their asses off!

You said you’re a health care assistant so what is that? Are you a hca? Did you get some type of schooling for this or just a job you got. If you have schooling I would say yeah could argue you should get more, if you’re just a random person working in healthcare not actually looking after patients or have any type of schooling where you being there actually matters then no I don’t think you should.

Yeah. I’m a cashier and I’m in high risk also and if I refuse to work then I get fired but I need the job. So I have to risk my life everyday for 9 $ an hour lol

I get what you’re saying but no. No one can afford that right now to be honest and you should be thankful you have a paycheck and a job and are helping people.

For certain jobs, yes. The necessary ones. If not, people who don’t think the virus is serious will work through just to receive the higher wage. I work in a grocery store and I’m totally ready to quit my job right now. Not really interested in working there when they increase my hours without telling me and take advantage of our low wage.

I am a charge nurse in the ER. I have a well paying job and I’m very happy with what I get paid. We also get pay raises bi annually. I work with the public daily and I am exposed to all different kinds of things daily.
