I should be able to have this refunded right?

We had to pay childminder £300 deposit in advance plus one week childminding fees. I stupidly didn't ask if it was refundable in the beginning. 
Am I right in thinking it would be???

Yeah deposits are generally refundable. The deposit is if you leave suddenly or don’t pay, so as long as you do, you should get it back.

I wouldn’t say either way but I would definitely ask about it. Also depends if your child has actually started/if they are still taking kids. 
If they have stopped taking kids then I would say yes you should have it back regardless of if they started or not.
If you don’t want to send her then no you don’t have the right to it back. However if they haven’t started them I would say it’s polite and goods business to give it back 🤷🏽‍♀️ just ask politely
