Infertility Clinic First-Timer (Need Help!)

Ashly

My husband and I have finally been referred to an infertility clinic. I knew it would eventually come to this, I am diabetic and have PCOS. He’s 33 and I’m 28. Been trying to conceive on our own since 9/2018. My diabetes is under control and I’ve had regular periods for over a year.

As many of you know, infertility treatments and testing are not covered by insurance. I knew this as well. It wasn’t shocking. I got sent a packet by the clinic with questions to call and ask insurance. All about what they would and wouldn’t cover. What’s that you may ask? Everything. They won’t cover anything. Told me if it had the work fertility or infertility in it, denied automatically. So that’s awesome.

Then called the clinic to get an idea of what things would cost. Talked to the financial advisor at the clinic and out of nowhere I lost it. Full on bawling on the phone. Could barely get a word out. The poor guy on the other line.

I just didn’t expect it to hit me the way it has. I’m not shocked by insurance not covering anything, but it hit me in a way and it was hard.

Now my question is. What do I expect from this fertility clinic? They told me they do a first time clinic visit that’s about $400 dollars and then they discuss options and what they recommend as your next steps so you can decide what you want to do.

I know my husband is most likely not the problem as I’m the one with PCOS and diabetes, but is there anything I should/could be advocating for? Something I should push to try before being forced down a rabbit hole of unnecessary tests/procedures? Anyone been in my shoes/have my conditions and have some insight? We would greatly appreciate it!
