Do you wear a mask out in public for protection cause of coronavirus

I have... and was made fun of by grown adults for wearing a mask. I have diabetes 22wks pregnant and no immunity (immune disease) and they walked by me pretending to cough in my face saying "I have coronavirus" this was a 60 some year old man then happened again few days later at grocery store with another man probably 18-22yrs old.

A mask won't protect you from catching it. It's meant to be worn if you are already sick. As a courtesy to everyone else.

I’ve seen some stories about people pretending to cough on people or on surfaces getting arrested for that kind of stupid ass “humor”. People COULD just mind their own damn business and buy their stuff and go home instead of pretend to cough on somebody which is still spreading germ particles into the air. Smh.

I wear a N95 mask because regular masks dont really do much. My bf wears a full half face respirator because hes very at risk and we have cases in our city.
It's not "just the flu bro" like some say. Its horrible that people would do that, this time really shows exactly what kind of people are out there.
I'd rather look stupid than give it to the two high risk people I live with.

i don't. it's more important for medical personnel, infected people, and caregivers of sick patients. the best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands, disinfect touch spots (doorknobs, sink handles, etc.) frequently, practice social distancing, cover your mouth/nose when coughing/sneezing, and avoid touching your face. right now there's a severe shortage of face masks, forcing a lot of medical staff to reuse their masks.

What a bunch of jerks. It wont prevent direct spread like someone coughing on you but it will keep you from touching your bode or mouth after touching surfaces, so there is some protection there. Do what you feel you need to as your soc advises and ignore the idiots

In Korea, the N95 masks used to be available but they are all sold out. Most people (including me) still wear a mask even if it isn’t the effective type. Surgical, a foam ‘dust’ mask, cloth mask - whatever people can get their hands on.
A few weeks ago, I needed to go by the bank and I forgot my mask at home. All the stores and pharmacies were sold out so I couldn’t get one, and when I got to the bank, a guard at the door almost didn’t let me go in and I was shocked.
So even if masks aren’t “effective”, they still provide a barrier to keep me from touching my face and I don’t get ostracized in public or denied services while running errands.
