Masturbation not pleasurable

So for the first time I tried masturbating vaginally. I've never done it before because it just hurt and I usually have long nails so I never got round to it. I got past the pain and it stopped hurting but it...didnt feel that good. I guess maybe it was just because it was like my first time, or I just wasn't that wet (I wasn't) orrr because I had masturbated (clitorally) about 20 minutes beforehand. Is this normal? Will I eventually feel something good? Did I just not try long enough?
