Handmade face masks in public?

Do any of you wear a handmade face mask when you go out? I’ve heard so many different sides. But many of my nurse friends have reached out to me and said for my safety due to the uncertainty of this virus (mainly the argument is it airborne or droplet) i should wear a handmade mask I’m making for other nurses and healthcare people and add some sort of filter to it. Bc I’m pregnant and have an autoimmune disease. Curious, are any of you taking these precautions? Now before you all jump on me, i stay in my house primarily however there’s two trips this week that I have to go to that I cannot send my husband to I’m just trying to best protect myself and baby.
