Difference between a HANGOUT & a DATE

Can we have a discussion about the difference between a date and a hangout?? My guy friends and I have been debating about what a date is and what is hanging out. They are saying that if you’re f*cking around with someone and you just take her to get food or ask her to walk in the park, then it’s a date. I’m saying that a date is a date when both parties agree that it is in fact a date and that you cannot assume that everything you do with someone is a date.

We invited other females to the conversation and some females agreed with me and some females agreed with them. I just need more opinions so that I can see how people think.
