Breast milk - no cow's milk?

Question

I'm been exclusively pumping for a while (ever since those teeth came in). Now that baby girl is 1 I keep hearing we HAVE to switch to cow's milk. Is anyone continuing to do breast milk instead of cow's milk? Or is anyone doing a milk alternative instead of cow's milk? We don't buy cow milk and just wondering if that's our only option?

we are still continuing breast milk and will never introduce cows milk. by the time hes done with breast milk, he wont need any sort of milk. just water is fine

There’s people that breastfeed for years and don’t give there kids milk while on the breast. I’m pretty sure your fine just letting baby stay on the breast !!

So, my daughter won’t take either milk in a cup. I was flipping out. Our pediatrician said it’s actually healthier that she refuses cow’s milk. He said it’s a misconception based off old information and old issues people had in the past when calcium was hard to get. He told me if she starts to refuse breastfeeding all together and just eats table foods (a healthy diet) and water she will be perfectly fine. I was very surprised!

I just stopped pumping about a week ago. LO has been been doing great with Cows milk, I really believe it’s all personal preference on what you would like to give. There is no right or wrong, it’s whatever works best for you and your LO 😊

You definitely don't have to switch off you don't want to! 
I switched during the day because I was going back to work (and pumping at work isn't really an option for me). Also, the WHO recommends breastfeeding until at least 2 years old of you're able.

I’m sorry but anyone who says breast milk needs to be replaced by cow’s milk is blowing complete smoke. Breast milk is the BEST thing you could ever give your baby. Additionally, after 12 months of age, babies don’t require any form of milk. I breastfed my first for almost 3 years and never gave anything else but water, and my second (13 mo) I’m still nursing but I don’t make enough so I supplemented with formula for a few months and now he takes soy milk in a soppy cup like 2x a day. I know people have different opinions as well, but cow’s milk isn’t good for babies or people in general really. It doesn’t digest well and many people develop allergies. Stick with breast milk!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Oh sorry I forgot to say if you wanted to do a milk that’s not cows milk there are so many options now like: almond milk, pea milk, oat milk, soy milk etc... 
my little one also drink almond milk, but again not much. For me it’s more just to try. I want to try and breast feed as long as I can that’s why.

You don’t have to do cows milk. My LO just turned 1 years old on March 23rd. And I’m still breast feeding her on demand, but I do try to offer her cows milk in her straw munchkin sippy cup. I only fill about 2oz of milk in her cup. She doesn’t drink too much of it. But I don’t force her. If she doesn’t want it then I put it back into the fridge. She drinks water throughout the day and still breastfeeds, and I usually offer her cheese in the morning for a snack. She doesn’t like yogurt much so I’m going to try do keifer which is like yogurt but more liquidity. Oh and I make her things that incorporate yogurt or milk, like muffins or pancakes. 
Breast milk is always the best. And my doctor said she doesn’t have to drink cows milk. As long as she is getting dairy from other sources is fine.

Thank you everyone. I'd like to continue breast milk as long as possible. We do three 5oz bottles a day then she has solid meals and snacks. She does get dairy from yogurt, cheese, etc.

Usually once you switch to cows milk, it's advised that you give baby vitamins. This is because both breast and formula have vitamins that cows milk doesn't. I know people that breastfed their babies right up until the were 2, do what's right for you. If you want to carry on, go ahead.
