When should i be concerned

My Little one is 26 months , and still doesn’t talk! She’ll say a few words but not in a sentence! She mostly points when she wants something and i try to get her to say stuff but she just giggles. When i took her to her 24 month checkup, her Dr said we can give her a few months to catch up but she still doesn’t seem to want to say anything! She suggested speech therapy, should i go ahead and get her started on that or should i let her speak when she’s ready? Anything i can do differently to help her?

My kid is speech delayed too. 
All the research shows that early intervention is key. Sure, she might grow out of it and eventually start talking. However she also might end up needing help, and no one can know which group she’ll fall in. 
So I don’t see the harm in getting a free evaluation for early intervention (google their number in your area).  They’ll let you know if she qualifies for services or not.

Hi, I work for early childhood intervention and at 24 months I would encourage at least getting her a speech evaluation by an SLP.  Your state probably has an ECI you can self refer. Here In Texas evaluations are free to the families and services are on a sliding scale. Good luck!

Definitely follow up with a speech therapist. If there isn’t a problem then you won’t have harmed her, she will have just had fun playing games with another person. If there is a delay then early intervention makes the most difference. You can waste precious time by waiting to see if they catch up.

I’d get her into some speech therapy now. No reason to wait imo, it can only help her. I have one nephew that wasn’t talking, his mom and dad got him into speech therapy right away, he’s doing great now. I have another nephew who’s parents were in denial and didn’t do anything. He is now behind and they’ve just started speech therapy within the last month. He will be three in June and I’ve only ever heard him say two words ever. No harm in getting help early.

My son is delayed too. No sentences, very little words but understands everything and points.. I would get her evaluated now. My son is 3 already and at 2 we got him evaluated but he wasn’t delayed ‘enough’🙄 So now he was supposed to start school (very early pre k) but then all this bs happened so he can’t go in til the fall

It's definitely better to get therapy as soon as it's mentioned because no matter what, it will help! Better now than later and her being worse off.
