I have an almost 4 month old baby and two 7 year old Shih Tzu’s. The dogs has been with us for 6 years. Her and my other dog have been the center of our world until my baby came. I do everything I can to let my dogs know they’re loved.

But lately, I’ve noticed one of my dogs has been walking around with her tail down. Which is very unusual. She’s also very attention driven. There are a lot of times when she will try to get between me and my baby.

I’ve started trying to divide my time between baby and my dogs.

(Ex: closing the door with just my LO and me inside. This was because my dog had walked over my LO and accidentally scratched LO’s hand.)

When my LO is asleep I try to give my dogs attention.

I try going on walks with all 3 of us to help.

I do let my LO and the dog bond by letting my dog give kisses to the baby’s feet and legs. But I avoid the hands and face for now. But it’s all supervised. I’ve seen my lo grab at the dogs fur by the chest. I try to make sure my lo doesn’t grab there and only pets. One time my lo grabbed and I saw my dog slowly open her mouth near his hand, which then I grabbed my dog away from baby and just started petting her. She’s never bitten anyone before, but I don’t want to test it.

-if my dogs ever growl when near baby I immediately get them separated. I don’t encourage or discourage growling since it’s their warning sound.

Anyone tips to let my dog know she is still loved?
