Help with Ectopic Loss

Jodi

I’m hoping to find someone who’s gone through an ectopic loss who is willing to talk to me about their experience.

This was my husband and I’s first. We’d been trying for six months and we’re so excited. I started spotting a few days after we found out, they tested my hcg and it was low but rising. Over the weekend o started bleeding and they said that I was likely miscarrying. The next Monday rolled around and despite bleeding my hcg levels were still rising, but slow. My progesterone was also very low, under 1. I started supplements and we had a ultrasound that Thursday but nothing could be seen...still spotting though. I went back the following week and my hcg levels were rising but not as quickly as they should. They were concerned about an ectopic, but wanted to see if my levels would rise appropriately. Unfortunately by the next week, they had not, but still rose some. They diagnosed me with an ectopic (I was under 400 hcg at six and a half weeks) and I had methotrexate injections. Now four days later, my levels are over 700. Does it take awhile to take effect? Should I be concerned? With this being my first I don’t know what to expect.

Plus this has been an emotional rollercoaster. Excited, then scared, then heartbroken, then hopeful, then scared, then crushed. How do you emotionally heal from this? My sweet husband is going through so much too. He’s been married before and suffered four miscarriages with his ex-wife. How can I help him?
