Birth story
I’ll be 6 weeks pp on Wednesday and wanted to share my birth story.
I had my baby boy on March 4th 2020 at 9:48 am. I was in labor for 28 hours. Labored 17 hours at home and 11 at the hospital. I originally went to L&D on the 2nd due to contractions in the 511 rule. But got sent home after two hours, since I made no progress from the 1 cm I was.
I woke up at 5am to extremely painful cramps. I wrote it off as my cervix being irritated from the two cervix checks I had within two hours. I could not fall back asleep for the life of me. Around 10am they got stronger to the point it kept causing me to cry, which is saying a lot because I handle pain quite well. I still didn’t think they were contractions, especially because I could not tell how far apart they were or how long it would last, mostly because it felt like constant pain.
Finally around 10 pm, my fiancé finally convinced me to call the hospital, because there was no end in sight and I kept crying due to the pain. We got to the hospital, I was between 2-3 cm. She wanted me to be at a 4 for them to admit me. After two hours I finally got admitted. I was so worried about getting sent home because of the last time. Not even an hour after they admitted me, I was already at a 6. I was progressing fast, especially for this being my first pregnancy. I got an epidural at around 4am, and hour after I was at a 6. Pretty much right after I had a 2 minute long contraction that went off the grid. And let me tell you, the second that epidural kicked in, I could talk and focus on what was being said to me, it was magical. I managed to get in two naps which was incredible, At around 9 my water broke. I immediately felt a lot of pressure and need to push. My nurse told me that it may be 1-3 hours from the time I start pushing, before my baby is here, since I am a ftm. In my head I remember thinking I wasn’t even going to let it go an hour.
My dr was in surgery when this was all happening, so there was talk that her nurse midwife might have to deliver, but thankfully my nurse let me push just with her guidance and help. She told me when to skip a set of pushed to prevent worse tearing. They got the call my dr was out of surgery, but she had to shower before coming to deliver my son. It was the longest 10 minutes of my life, I remember thinking I was just going to deliver my baby myself. Once she was in her gear and in position, I could push again. It only took another big push and two smaller pushes for him to come out. My dr was there for less than 10 minutes before she was gone again. I had two small tears, both she said were really small, all thanks to my nurse for having me stop skip a few sets of pushes. It only took me about 25-30 minutes to give birth. All the nurses and my dr were shocked at how fast it took me.
We did immediate skin to skin, latching, they waited a minute to have my fiancé cut the cord. With having the epidural I couldn’t feel when they delivered my placenta, or the stitching, or when they had to push on my uterus. My nurse was the sweetest, she made me a special tea to give me some energy and she was so kind and caring with everything. She actually came to see us right before we got discharged. My son was 6lbs 11oz. 19.75 inches long. He was healthy in every way. My labor and delivery couldn’t have gone better. Everything went so smooth and amazing. I was so worried and stressed out that something would go wrong. The feeling after giving birth was so euphoric. It’s crazy how you go from the worst pain you’ve ever felt to forgetting about all of it the second you see your baby.
Here’s a picture of my baby, Atlas Indigo DeNile as of now. Share pictures of your little one and possibly your birth story if you was to, below, I love reading them.
