Thoughts on moving in together before marriage?

I feel like there’s a huge stigma around it. But times have changed...how soon is TOO soon? Any thoughts on it? Any good/bad/ugly experiences?? Just curious.

i think everyone should live together before marriage personally, that’s when you really get to know someone best. i don’t really think there is a stigma anymore unless you come from a very religious family, but idc what other people think. do it if that’s what you want.

I have ended two relationships because of things i learned while we lived together. It took less than a year of me living with them before making the decision to part ways and that they were not someone I could be with for the rest of my life. Do i think i could have made that decision without living together? Probably... but it would have been prolonged. However, it gets extremely messy if a break up happens and you are separating assets, breaking lease agreements, etc. have a plan in place to protect yourself. Do not take on any of their debt, do no conjoin bank accounts, etc. Save those things for if it leads to marriage.

I honestly think it’s smart to move in before getting married. Sometimes you live in with someone and find that they are completely incompatible with how you live. And that’s good! Because you don’t want to marry them and then hate every day you live with them. I don’t think there is a stigma really anymore. And for everyone who says “”you’ll only break up” what does marriage really do when you move in? It’s just a piece of paper

i've been with my man 8 years and we have a son together. not married, no desire to get married right now. do what you're comfortable with! people honestly should live together before they marry just to see how compatible they are

I encourage people to move in before marriage. It's smart to know the full length of what you're getting into before you commit to someone for life. It's a lot easier to hide the skeletons in your closet when you don't live together

I think everyone should live together before getting married. You don't really know someone until you've lived with em. And no staying over at each others house a lot isn't the same as actually sharing a home with someone

I think it's the best thing you can do if you are planning to hopefully marry your partner one day. It allows both of you to see if there are things the other does you can or can't get past or if y'all just don't mesh well or if it makes your relationship grow stronger. Personally I think you should be dating for no less than 6 months before you do this but I didn't listen to my own advice. Just make sure you both arent only relying on one of you to pay for things and such is the best advice for that also. Until recently (when i couldnt work anymore cause of pregnancy) my husband and i always both worked and halved all of the bills. 
When I ended up moving in with him,I had a bad situation with my cousin who I lived with when I started dating my now husband and after like two or three months of dating I ended up kinda forcing my way into moving with him to get out of the other situation. Now we have been together for 5 years, married for almost 3 months and having our first baby in three months. I don't see much of a stigma around living together beforehand unless you're in a very religious family.

In the olden days, living together before marriage was a big no no but I couldn’t imagine marrying someone without living with them first. Only way to truly know if your relationship will move forward is by getting to know that person and living with them is the best way. Does your boyfriend/girlfriend leave dishes in the sink without rinsing first? Leave clothes in the floor instead of the basket, not put the seat down? Fart in bed? It’s small stuff such as those that can easily make or break a relationship.

Honestly I didn’t do it. 
Not judging but to be honest that seems to be the norm now. People have sex before marriage, they move in together before marriage, they do a bunch of things before marriage. And it’s look upon as normal now.   We dated for a year and 8 months before getting married. We’ve been married for a year and a half now and I can say I’m truly happy. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I like compromise. I like rules. But that’s me.
Everyone does as they please so don’t come at me.
