Do you get along with your mother-in-law?

Today, my boyfriends mom called me. She wanted to say “happy Easter” and to see how I’m doing during this pandemic. We talked for about 30 mins -simply catching up. I felt a genuine connection. When we hung up I felt loved by this woman. It was such a kind gesture.

I cant stand my mil, my fiancè is a mommas boy so us getting along is more difficult bc i dont understand their relationship..she comes over n rearranges our house or tries to tell me what to do with our baby or our bills or our money..im not about that life..im 35 n i dont need someone else's momma all in my shit..my mom keeps her distance but will inquire about certain things without overstepping...his mom act like she dont hear shit..or if i want something done a certain way she has to question it..so, no, we dont get along n for the time being she cant come over bc we got into a bad ass argument..real bad..n if she doesnt learn boundaries then she can stay where she is at

Me and my mother in law got along until I got pregnant after I got pregnant she started treating me horribly and talking about me behind my back to his family when I finally found out I confronted her and she told me she couldn’t stand me and she hates my guts and I’ve literally never done anything to her

I wish I had that opportunity. My husband's mom was killed when he was 13. ☹ I like his sisters and his dad a lot tho, they're all very sweet.

Mine calls me to chat a few times a wk, speaks more to me than my husband even tho they have a fantastic relationship, we just have more to say, she’s wonderful 🥰

Eh , but I find it funny how now that im not with her son, she wants to be around my kids all the time. Which I totally don't mind but it sucks something like this had to happen for her to wanna be more involved with her grandkids

Both of my husbands parents were gone before I met him. And he's pretty much cut off from the rest of his family. He only had his sister, who I am extremely close to, and her kids, who are my God children. I am actually closer to his sister than he is

I hit yes she’s sweet , but she’s not sweet ... she can be a bitch , but I love it . We click very well . She always said that if we break up he’s gonna have to deal with her still hanging out with me and shit .

My MIL pretended I didn't exist the first 3 times she met me. Husbands dad went off on her about the attitude, but now she's nice to me, sends me messages and comments on my fb posts.  She even bought my son a Christmas present. Granted, my husband doesn't regard her at all. I still try to be civil and nice to her though.

We had a pretty good relationship but then after I had my daughter I think she felt a bit left out because I always went to my mum for advice. My mum is my best friend and we have similar parenting styles (cosleeping, gentle parenting, breastfeeding on demand, no sleep training etc) while my mil told me that it was healthy to let my then 3 month old infant cry herself to sleep. Most of her advice didn't sit right with me so I kinda ignored it. Our relationship got better as my daughter got older and she started to recognise my mil (again my mum sees my daughter more often because she only works part time and helps babysit when we work, mil works full time and rarely visits). 
But now that I'm pregnant with my second my mil has already started saying how I'll just have to let baby or toddler cry while tending to the other one and I know that'll probably be the case but I feel like she's rubbing it in a little 😬 hope we can bounce back after this baby and have the relationship we had before because I miss it.

My MIL and I don't speak the same language. I tend to make a lot of eye contact and physically gesture about our conversation, then force my husband to translate everything. 🙂
