Girl & boy sharing a bedroom & separate playroom
This discussion keeps on coming up in my house and I thought I’d see what other people’s set ups were.
My 2yo son currently has a playroom for all his toys (we focus on open ended play and Montessori as much as we can) and the small room is his bedroom with pretty much nothing in it but a chair and teddy (there’s a blackout blind so it’s always dark and his clothes are downstairs). It’s literally a room just to be calm & sleep.
He’s a very high-spirited, energetic toddler and has always resisted bedtimes. He has a separate room for his toys because he was constantly distracted by everything at bedtime.
I’m pregnant with a girl and my partner wants to make the playroom the boy bedroom with his toys, and the small room the girls bedroom because he doesn’t think a boy and girl should share.
Obviously none of this is happening anytime soon as she’ll be sleeping in our room anyway, but he keeps going on about it 😂.
I like the idea of them having their own bedroom together while they are young (just with their beds in) and a separate playroom for them to share.
If it doesn’t work then that’s fine, and if they asked for a change that is also fine. I just think playtime and bedtime need to be separated while he is young.
Would love to know thoughts or if anyone does anything similar to this?
