Hospital admission????

Question

Do hospitals have to admit you once you reach a certain dilatation? Or do they make you wait until you are having regular contractions regardless of dilation/effacement?

Usually they won’t admit you until you are 5cm or having regular contractions

You have to be at least 3cm ,and it all depends on how often your contractions are coming.

It looks like every place is different. I read birth stories with them being sent home to progress there but I was 3 cm in my doctors appointment at 33 weeks and they sent to me to labor and delivery and had to stay there for 3 days and then again at 38 weeks I was 5 cm and sent me to back to labor and delivery and asked if I wanted to be induced and that’s when I gave birth.

I had an appointment at with the maternal fetal medicine doctor at a different hospital from where I planned to give birth. I had consistent contractions the day before. I showed up for my appointment and I was 3 centimeters but my water hadn't broke yet. After they did my ultrasound they were getting ready to release me so I could go to the hospital of choice, but then my water broke and had meconium in my fluid. So, they admitted me then as this required a nicu visit after birth and my original hospital didn't have one

I went in for an induction with my first. I got there at 6pm and wasn’t “admitted” until my water broke at 12:20 that next morning.

Hospital admission????
