Bassinet or crib? FTM

I am currently buying everything I need before baby comes but I was looking at bassinets and can’t  justify the $200 + to just use for only 5 months. My question is should I just buy a crib? Is it safe for a Newborn to sleep in a crib if it’ll be in the same room?

We compromise with a pack n play with bassinet insert! Still use the pack n play for my first when we travel or if she spends the night at someone else's house

I’ve had friends just put their kids right into a crib, a bassinet is not necessary. (I have one and like it.. only used for 4 months as he started rolling over.) 
Another option another friend did was use the pack-in-play infant top in their room for a bassinet!

We used the halo bassinet for my first son for 8 weeks before putting him into his crib in his own room. Ps I exclusively breastfed till 10 months old - I just would go grab him when he needed to be fed- I preferred to get up and walk to fed him because I was always worried about falling asleep with him in my bed- I would just fed him in the rocker in his room or walk to get him to bring him into bed to fed- it helped wake me up! 
 Baby boy number two will go directly into his room and crib day one 🤷‍♀️ 
His room is right next to ours so we will keep the doors open and go get him to fed! 
Whatever you decide is okay! Try a few things out to see what works best for you and baby!

Second kid and we purchased a bassinet and honestly I’m not sure why anymore lol. We had one with our first and she hated it, I think she slept in it two times. She had terrible acid reflux so her and I had to sleep in the rocking chair together at night for the first month, then after that the only way we could get her to sleep well was in the swing until three or four months, then we transitioned to the crib. It’s not recommended to let baby’s sleep in the swing but it is the only way she would, the incline was steep enough she wouldn’t get upset from her acid reflux (even on medicine). I’m most likely going to need another c section so I thought a bassinet would make life easier this time around but now I keep thinking how I’d rather get out of bed to nurse even with another c section. Lol!

Crib deff crib bassient will only be used for a very short time then theres no use for it just sits there lol i have one rt now and its just there i have 3 kiddos i really need to get rid of it by now 😂😂😂😂

I got one that is a bassinet and then it can be dropped down to be a crib like thing and can be used up to 12 months! This is my 5th and thought this was the best of both worlds! It’s called ingenuity bassinet I believe!

I got a bedside sleeper used (before this whole thing). If you plan to use a crib anyway and can have it in your room, you could probably just use that. Bassinets our bedside sleepers are just really convenient to have baby right next to you.

it’s completely safe for them to sleep in a crib. my daughter never had a bassinet , her crib was right next to my bed and it was really good for both of us. we transitioned her into her own room at about 3 months old. i personally feel a bassinet is good if you can’t put a crib close to you wether it be across the hall or in your room. or to have on a seperate level you spend a lot of time on.
