What people don’t understand about helping someone with depression

TW!! *disclaimer: I do not speak for everyone. I speak for myself and whoever may relate*

Phrases that DO NOT HELP:

“It’ll get better” -or it could get worse. Much worse. And who cares about it getting better if you’re dead.

“Someone out there loves you” - you don’t know that. Some people literally have no one. Some people sadly don’t care that much how it effects the people in their lives.

“I know you don’t know me but I love you. I’ll miss you if you’re gone” -this literally means nothing to me. I appreciate the concern but how the hell can you love or miss someone you have never met.

Worst of all: “please get help” - ITS NOT THAT EASY! Not everyone has access to a therapist. Some people have really bad experiences with therapy/meds It’s not for everyone.

All in all NOTHING you say to someone GENUINELY considering suicide will change their minds. Ive been suicidal since I was SEVEN YEARS OLD! I’m 16 now. It doesn’t get better. The only reason I haven’t done it yet is because I’m too much of a pussy. I’m waiting for it to get bad enough.

Again: I don’t speak for everyone. I appreciate anyone trying to help. I’m just letting you know you can’t fix mental illness with a overused catchy phrase.
