Mamas working from home: How are you doing?

Question

Just wanted to see how you're doing. I'm a SAHM so I know how hard it can be, but I couldn't imagine doing both and trying to work and meet deadlines during this time.

Answer

It’s been really hard. My husband and I both WFH so we take turns watching my son, but I he’s always popping in to ask me questions or to help with something or to hold the baby so he can do XYZ. When he’s working I don’t bother him at all. He basically acts like if I’m not in a meeting, I’m not working. I’m really unfocused and not getting much done. 
Most of my immediate team don’t have children except for one guy whose kids are grown. I don’t think they get what it’s like.

It’s tough! My daughter is kind of clingy right now and always wants to play with my laptop when I have it out. I work for a small non-profit so we are flexible with hours. I informed the director from day one that my hours would be drastically reduced and that I’d most likely work at night after she goes to bed. I’m loving all the extra play time I have with her during the day and don’t like ‘ignoring’ her just to get work done. If she was older things would probably be easier. We all know how hard it is to keep a 10 month old entertained. lol.

It’s hard! I’m so unfocused. I have to work, parent and teach. Thankfully most of my co-workers and my boss are in the same situation (although most have kids older than mine) so we all do what we can. We also are in a lull for the time being so not a lot of hard deadlines (for me at least). My husband has to go into the office once/week. Days he isn’t here is a complete shit show. Part of me can’t wait to get back to normal, but part of me likes being home all the time with my family. I think if my kids were in school and I was home that would be the ideal balance. It is fun to see my kids interact with the videos they get from their teachers. I never know how much they truly enjoy school but it’s very clear they are SO excited to see their teachers and miss them a lot. It’s also been fun to see them try out new activities and the progress (my 4 year old loves cosmic kids yoga). Sometimes with the daily grind we miss out on noticing the little things.
