I want to share my birth story of my first baby so that I have it written down somewhere. So on Tuesday 14th April I was 41 weeks pregnant and went into hospital for an induction at 11am. When they first examined me my cervix was only opened a fingertip so they gave me prostin gel and planned to examine me 6 hours later. After an hour I was getting very strong and painful contractions which painkillers didn’t stop and I couldn’t get proper labour painkillers since I wasn’t in labour yet. After more hours the contractions were so intense, painful and frequent i was yelling out every time and so the midwife examined me 2 hours early. I was still only a fingertip dilated which was so depressing. After that I threw up and continued in so much pain for another 2 hours. When they examined me again at 7pm I was 2cm dilated so they broke my waters and sent me to the delivery suite. I will never forget the relief I felt when she broke my waters because it meant I could get proper pain relief and finally start my labour and my partner could come to the hospital and join me (due to coronavirus regulations). As soon as i got to the delivery suite I got an epidural straight away. It worked nicely at first but I started feeling contractions on half my body so they redid it and the second time worked much better so I was very numb for the rest of labour and delivery. At about 11pm or 12am the midwife examined me and unbelievably I was 9cm dilated !! At 1am I started pushing and I was pushing well but unfortunately after 2 hours baby still hadn’t come so the doctor came in. She decided to do a forceps delivery and luckily we were able to stay in the same room. At around 3:30am she started using the forceps and at 3:35am my beautiful baby girl was born ! They put her on me straight away but after a little while they became concerned with her breathing and she ended up on the neonatal ward as they were worried she wasn’t getting enough oxygen. Thankfully 16 hours later she was doing amazing and she is now in my postpartum room with me. Overall I’m happy with my first birth experience although having my baby taken away soon after she was born was horrible and my partner having to leave after the birth and not being able to see us until we get discharged due to the virus is insanely sad. Idk if this has made a lot of sense as I have only slept 2 hours in the past 36 hours x anyway here is my lovely girl who weighs 8.6 pounds !
