Midwife vs. Doctor

Recently my hospital brought midwives onto their staff to deliver babies. When I had my daughter 2 years ago this wasn’t the case, and only doctors delivered babies there. I’m 99% sure I want a doctor to delivery my baby again in case something goes wrong. We have the option when we get there to tell them if we want a midwife or doctor. I already put in my notes that I want a doctor, but I’m just wondering more of what the difference is. It would be at the hospital either way- no home birth for me.
