When you’re texting someone you haven’t seen in awhile to ask about something specific, do you usually

I wonder about this a lot because my husband usually goes for the “hey how’s life” kind of thing then builds up to asking for a favor or whatever specific thing he has in mind, but I usually just say what I’m texting about right off the bat.

In this specific case, my friend Stacy just moved to a new city. I have an old high school friend who lives in that city. Stacy doesn’t know anyone there so I mentioned to her that I have an old friend who lives there and maybe they could exchange info. I think they’d like each other.

So I’m about to text my old high school friend about it- should I leap right in and tell her in the first text something like “Hey I have a friend who just moved to your city” or should I just text her “hey how’s it goin” sort of thing and build up to it? I saw her a couple months ago at a dinner party but we don’t keep in touch regularly, we just see each other sporadically when she’s in town.

And yes I know I’m overthinking and it’s not that big of a deal but 1) I have social anxiety, especially about texts and 2) I’m genuinely curious what most people do in these types of situations.
