Dog sleeping in the same room as newborn?

Question

This will be our first baby and we’ve had our dog for 4 years. He’s a rescue, he is not great with strangers, and has no experience with young kids but I’m sure he will adapt quickly and love the new baby. My dog sleeps in our bedroom in his crate, and my husband wants him to stay in the room still so he doesn’t feel like he’s being replaced. I am not sure about it because I think my dog will be miserable being woken up the entire night by the baby. That point aside.... are there any dangers of having a new born sleep in the same room? I more so am thinking about the air quality with a dog who sheds etc. Any opinions are helpful!

I’ve been told that babies who have pets around are less likely to develop asthma and pet allergies. My dog sleeps in our bed and I don’t plan on changing that because she is very much a baby and has separation anxiety so I don’t think it would be fair to kick her out when she is the sweetest little thing!

Our dogs were great around baby! At first they were curious and scared lol they’d slowly snoop close but the moment baby moved and make the smallest noise they’d jump 😂 but they slowly realized it was all good

The dog will be better if you dont move him. 
 Don't even worry about the baby disturbing him because just like your husband he'll learn to sleep through the cry very quickly. I had two chihuahuas when my son was born both were rescues and I didn't know their histories. They slept in bed with me and adapted to a baby quite easily and both were very protective of him growing up.
This baby is now coming in to a house with 8 dogs! 5 of which sleep in my room. We're not worried everybody's going to adapt just fine

Don’t change your dogs habits. Maybe leave the bedroom door open so if your dog really wants to they can go sleep in another room which I doubt! I have two dogs & they both have experience with small children but never baby of their own. I don’t plan to change their habits. I started training them not to get on the bed from the beginning of my pregnancy & they’ve adjusted well to that.

I wouldn’t change up your routine with your dog.  My dog sleeps on the chest at the end of our bed or on top of the comforter.  She still did that when I had my daughter last year.  Once my dog got used to the baby, she was so unbothered by everything.  The only thing we did do was purchase a small dog bed to put in my daughter’s room, so she’d have her own little space near the baby.  So when we’d feed her in the middle of the night or when I was rocking her during the day, she would come into the room and lay in her dog bed bc she liked being around us.

Our dog has always slept in our room on his bed, and will sometimes move to the couch in the middle of the night. We had him
In the room with our newborn daughter (who is now 17 months old) and never had any issues. Our daughter has never been sick. Her crying never bothered him, but on particularly difficult nights, he would just relocate to the couch. It may be different for you guys since your dog is in a crate, but I would t change his routine because of the baby. The baby will be perfectly fine in the same room. We will be doing the same thing this time around

With our first our dog slept in our room on his bed and baby in a bassinet. He got as sleep deprived as us and would sneak downstairs to sleep 😂 we eventually started having him sleep downstairs because he started snoring and between him and the baby up all the time I never got any sleep.

I'm not letting my dogs in the nursery until my son is a lot bigger. We have a bassinet for our bedroom and one for the living room because my husband likes to sleep on the couch, and I'm not going to keep my dogs from doing what they normally do unless they are harmful to my baby, although I highly doubt that would be a problem

My dogs both slept at the bottom of our bed and on their dog beds in our room whenever they decided to before our son came. We kept the routine the same so they would adjust better. My older dog spends more time on the dog bed now by choice due to his hip issues but the younger one still falls asleep in our bed every night and then goes to his bed. My son and two dogs have a very close bond and he is only 2 years old. I’ll def be keeping everything the same again when baby #2 gets here in June!

Our dog slept in our bed before our first due to living situation (living with parents) The day we brought the baby home from hospital in to the new house the dog went in to her bed under our bed. Then outside our door and then downstairs. Over a week or so. She was fine. Never an issue. If I could have I’d have done it before the baby came I would have. Baby now three and dog and him play together the whole time.
