color change in colostrum at 38/39 weeks

jill

my body started producing colostrum pretty early—around 16 weeks or so. i just had to squeeze my boob and some would come out. as i’ve progressed in my pregnancy, i noticed that more would come out. i got in the habit of expressing colostrum every night to prepare my nipples for breastfeeding, but i’ve noticed this past week that it’s changing color. it used to be a deeper yellow, and now it’s more a translucent white. does this mean it’s not as rich/nutritious? should i stop expressing colostrum so i can ensure my baby is well fed when she’s born? my next prenatal appointment is in a few days, so of course i’ll ask my midwife, but i wondered if anyone would know off hand. thank you!!
