Same ring as his ex?!

Question

I was just reading an article and this woman was proposed to with a ring that her fiancé also proposed to his ex with! It had normal wear and tear when she got it and later found the receipt dated a year before they started dating. Thoughts? Wondering if anyone has had this happen to them? I am all about saving money, but I’m not sure I could do this.

Had he bought it (which it seems like so ) I would be livid! He could have easily try to sell it (he would lose money) to get her a new one

I was engaged before my husband I was really young and he was engaged before. I let him reset the diamond from the first ring I didn’t want it to look the same but it was the same cut I wanted. Well when we broke up I pawned it and found out it wasn’t even real. He is a true mother fucker!

I’m going to be the odd one out here. 
I’m not a jewelry person, and I’m pretty frugal. Since diamonds have basically a made-up value, he wouldn’t be able to sell the ring for nearly as much as he paid for it. Probably not even half. 
Would I want the exact same ring? Hell no. Would I be 100% okay with using the diamonds (and maybe the band) to fashion a new ring? Yeah, probably. 
However, and I don’t know the rest of the story that you’re talking about, but that’s definitely something that should be discussed with his future bride. The fact that it sounds like he tried to hide it is kind of a red flag.

I wear a ring that my husband previously proposed with.
It was made by his brother in law who passed away before I met my husband. 
I knew the back story and he actually proposed with a different ring that I wear on my middle finger now- it’s a fun Disney ring because our first big trip was Disney. Then I wear the engagement ring that his BIL made and we had a wedding band made to match.  The plan is that down the road, we will pass along the ring to my niece so that she has a ring her dad made. We’d rather pass it along with 20ish years of marriage vs it sitting in a box never worn and then having to explain why he had it because mathematics wise it doesn’t make sense that their dad would have made it for me.

Eesh clearly the ring saw one failed relationship and that doesn't bode well.
If it was a family heirloom I would see no issue but as it's a ring he's personally gone out and brought... He should have exchanged it for store credit or something and then picked one with her. I understand some rings aren't cheap but can't think of anything worse than getting cast offs from an ex.

Maybe ... maybe ... I would keep the diamonds and put them in another ring. But at that point, I don’t think I would even ask for the ring back. The ring is theirs. Sell it, keep it, I don’t care.
