How did you grow up financially?

Water down $1 VO5 shampoo, steal toilet paper from work, toilet paper for pads, no running water on several occasions, and a steady ramen noodle diet level poor, for my entire childhood. I remember having to tell the teachers that I couldn't afford my $5 share to the classroom pizza party

I put middle class but it varied between broke as hell to the point that my mom pinched her pennies to afford a single Taco Bell bean burrito and holy shit we can afford an iPhone and have a savings account at the same time.
My parents worked really hard to get to a point where money finally wasn’t always an issue, but they budgeted well and worked hard. A lot of their success was also circumstantial and the result of privilege. 
Right now, my husband and I aren’t quite middle class, but we’re not in poverty either.

Upper middle class up until I was 8 when my dad moved out and took all his money with him (my mom didn’t get a penny of alimony, and he only gave child support for a couple years). Then progressively poorer every year after that lol. But we still managed to stay pretty middle class... things were just a little tighter.

Grew up in a house hold with 3 people on just 300$ per week. We barely could afford food.

I put a little above middle class. I grew up in a very expensive area.. the house wasn’t fancy but worth a lot because of location. We went on family vacations once a year, I had every toy I wanted ( only child ). I didn’t realize how privileged I was until I was a teenager and moved out if that town and my father lost most of his money.

I said middle class. At first it was all good but my dad was addicted to pain meds. So my mom was supporting all us. We barely got by. My grandma helped out a lot!

My mom was solidly middle class I never really noticed much with her, I didn’t have every toy like some of my friends but I had food and a nice house and got a reasonable amount of things I asked for. My dad was definitely poor. He changed jobs a lot, or was on unemployment when looking for work. Sometimes he’d not eat in order for me to have food and would donate plasma in order to pay for groceries. He always made sure I was taken care of and I never felt like I was missing out but looking back I know he struggled. Both of my parents did a great job though and I’m glad I saw both situations and wouldn’t wish for a different childhood.
