Tablet for 2 year old?

Question

I’m wanting him to do some educational stuff. He’s three in December and refuses to do school stuff with me the old fashioned way. I’ve tried singing, books and interactive play. He’s just too busy and wants to go elsewhere. I’m hoping the tablet will keep his attention and be funny? And tablet recommendations?

If he’s too active to do things educationally like singing and dancing, an iPad won’t help. 
You need to figure out ways to help him *with* more activity. Pinterest will be your best friend!

No need to be doing any school stuff with a 2yo. Children that age learn best by playing. My son just turned 3 & he knows a TON (he can name basically any animal including rare ones like okapi, pangolin, aye-aye; colors & numbers & letters; all kinds of stuff about different kinds of trains....) but I haven't taught him any of that in an organized way. I talk to him about things he's interested in, read books to him (about his interests & that he picks out), answer his questions, etc.-- just all the the context of however he's choosing to play. You will foster a love of learning through play & interaction, not though forcing any particular learning on your toddler.

I wouldn't discourage activity and encourage sitting in front of a screen more. Learning through play is important at that age.

Learning through play is great! Such an opportunity to work on language skills which will be the basis for his later literacy skills.
Games like Simon Says teaches language skills, impulse control, you can use it to teach left and right, etc.
You can do counting in everyday situations-  counting steps, how many more apples do we need to make the pie, money for ‘shopping’, etc.
You could also try singing songs in the car when he’s not moving around. Get him to pick the song so it’s engaging and you can both have a singalong together. If he really doesn’t like songs you could turn it into a game- who can sing the loudest/quietest/in the funniest voice, can you guess what song I’m singing, etc.

He's 2. He is learning through play. Play with him in more ways. Talk to him. When it's safe to go out places, take him to the park, on hikes, to science centers.

I got my daughter a fire tablet when she was 3. However don't worry about school now just do things for fun. Read even if he doesn't seem to listen, my daughter would not stop at all. However I would sit in the same room and read while she played. She now loves books!

My kids have Samsung tablets and we downloaded Samsung Kids+. My son has really enjoyed it (daughter doesn’t quite understand how to use it yet)! He’s 5 now, but he learned cursive at 3 and has learned to read some words and spell them. There is a subscription, but I know there’s a free trial before being charged. Also, they can’t get out of the app without a password or unless it crashes, which has happened only a few times.
