Psychological Impact of Read Receipts?

Ke

I’m sure a lot of you have iPhones, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Androids (even emails). I’ve been thinking about the impact of read receipts on intimate relationships, work relationships, friendships, and so on.

I came across several articles that state that read receipts pretty much heighten our anxiety, but we use them anyways! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you have your read receipts on? Do you have them on for certain conversations and not for others? Do you use read receipts (or whatever else they’re called) on other social media platforms? Do you feel like you have to respond and keep the conversation going? Do you not care if someone leaves you on read?

Of course, you don’t have to answer all of these questions! I’m just looking to see what kind of importance we put on read receipts and how messaging has evolved or how it might feel ruined.

I have them turned on for my husband and I tease him when he leaves me on read. It’s usually an accident or he opened it on his watch and forgot to respond. My parents recently got iPhones and they think read receipts are SO COOL, but they leave me on read all the time! 😂 That might be a difference in generations.

Let me know what you think and your personal feelings, experiences, or psychological impacts!

Thanks!! 😎
