What does dilating feel like

I am 37 weeks and have been having huge intense Braxton hicks with the sharpest pain in my cervix almost like opening feeling

If anything, you feel period like cramps usually. I was 4.5 cm dilated Saturday and I would have never guessed it. All I’ve had is some light period like cramps, but nothing very often at all up until that point.

I am not sure I never felt myself dilating. This is my third pregnancy

I never felt dilation but I agree, menstrual type cramps might mean dilating. The sharp pains in your cervix could be lightning crotch. No one really knows what it is but it can happen any time in pregnancy and usually doesn't mean anything, I'm 24 weeks and have been having it about once per week. But they say it can also sometimes be a sign of labor.
