Doula during Covid?
I’ve read a lot about the benefits of doulas and, up until Covid, was planning to have one at my delivery (my first is due in October).
There aren’t too many Covid cases where I live, but the only hospital where my OB delivers is not allowing more than one support person in the room and, of course, I want my husband there for the birth.
It seems like the virus will probably still be around in the fall, so I’d imagine the hospital will still have the same restrictions when it comes time for me to deliver.
My doctor is nice and I’ve liked her so far but am not set on sticking with her.
I’m trying to decide if I should:
1) Give up on the idea of having a doula and stick with my current doctor / hospital
2) Try to find a different hospital (and doctor) that may allow a second person (if that exists)
3) Look into a midwife and birthing center that would likely have fewer restrictions
I’m only 17 weeks, but I was planning to start looking for a doula during the second trimester, and if I’m going to change doctors or delivery locations would like to have that figured out sooner rather than later.
Is anyone else considering a doula at the delivery? If so, do you think Covid will affect that?
