Our little loves are here! 33w2d delivery!

Tammy

I have to say that my twin pregnancy was relatively uneventful. Minimal symptoms. No bleeding. Great blood pressure. No Gestational diabetes. I was super blessed! I'm 38 and not a spring chicken anymore!

When we went in for or 24w5d scan we were diagnosed with Polyhydramnios, mainly with our baby girl, twin B. We monitored her fluids from then on out and there wasn't really any increase in pattern so my doctors were not worried. One scan it'd be high, next scan it'd be normal, and repeat. No big deal, thank the Lord!

Then at our 28w5d scan, our baby boy, twin A, was diagnosed with high cord resistance. He was measuring smaller than his sister but still in the 33% growth percentile so my doctors weren't concerned. Another scan a week later showed everything to be ok. Fast forward to our growth scan at 33w this past Wednesday, our baby boy was now diagnosed with absent-end diastolic flow within the cord and his growth percentage went from 33% to 20% in 4 weeks, a definite sign the placenta/cord wasn't working right. To be sure there wasn't a misreading, they had me come in the following day for another scan. It was confirmed, absent-end diastolic flow.

Since he scored an 8 out of 10 on his scans, I was able to get the first round of steroids to help mature the babies lungs and I was able to go home. I had to go back in the next day for another round of scans, second round of steriods, and determine a game plan. See me every other day (M-W-F) or admit me for everyday monitoring.

I couldn't sleep Thursday night, I felt off and different. By the time Friday morning was rolling around, I wasn't feeling right. I knew something was definitely not right. He wasn't moving like he used to. I felt very heavy in my tummy and chest. Heart would race for no reason, a bit more braxton hick contractions, etc.

I get to the ultrasound clinic and they start doing the BPP scan. Absent-end diastolic flow is still present, he's barely moving, and has very low fluids. NST scan shows no reactions either. This gives him a 6 out of 10, requiring us to be admitted for further monitoring and game plan. They gave me the second steriod shot and took me up to labor & delivery. They hooked me up to the NST machine and they were going to do another BPP scan at 2ish and come up with a game plan. Deliver today or keep monitoring if his scores showed better. It was like 11 am by this time.

I called my husband and told him to get to the hospital right away, they are admitting me for further monitoring, and I'm allowed a visitor. I knew, I just knew, we were going to be having our babies that day. Well, the visitor policy had changed and the nurses didn't know. They wouldn't let him come up. My husband could only go up if I was in active labor, not for monitoring. So they finally told the control board it was active labor and he came up. Not even 30 mins after my husband arrived, I started having back to back contractions and they were getting stronger. Everytime a contraction came, our boys heart rate dropped. Next thing I knew, we were on our way to the OR to have an emergency c-section. Dazed, confused, but strangely calm.

The team of doctors were amazing!!! The only thing that didn't go well was the spinal block because I couldn't hunch over enough to give spaces inbetween the discs so it was quite uncomfortable getting it. I had a 33w2d belly with two babies for goodness sake. But it worked, that's for sure. When the on call OB started, it was quick. He was good! Both babies were born at 12:32 pm, our boy coming out first, and coming out angry! Haa! We loved hearing both of their cries. We didn't get to see them, they were rushed to the NICU and we just cried happy tears and began to pray. The doctor stitched me up and off to recovery we went to wait to see our babies. My husband was only able to stay 2 hours in recovery with me, see the babies, and then leave. He can't even visit me while I'm recovering, he can only visit our babies. I'm crying typing that cause it's been really lonely recovering by myself.

Noah Michael was 4lbs 5oz 16 inches long

Leah Noelle was 5lbs 3oz 17 inches long

They both need oxygen assistance and have a line in there umbilical cord to assist with stabilizing their blood sugars. They started receiving donor breast milk today since mine still hasn't come in. Noah is a bit behind his sister but he'll be catching up in no time. The NICU nurses say they are doing really well. We hope they only have to stay 4 weeks, maybe less, but they could go all the way to their due date, 6/24/2020. It just depends on how they progress.

We are so in love with them! They are just perfect and we can't wait until we can take them home!
