Do you think the $2K a month stimulus package will be passed?

Question

I just saw something that said a package is being discussed giving $2K a month to taxpayers and $4K to married couples, $500 per child. That would put $4500 a month extra into our account as a family, seems kind of huge and too good to be true. Think it’ll pass?

Highly doubt it. Our government can’t afford that. I hope every one realizes that these stimulus checks, as nice as they are for immediate reasons, will need to be accounted for and “paid back” through cuts in other areas. They’re already making large social security cuts in order compensate. Could you imagine if they sent out monthly checks to everyone in that amount?! What kind of cuts or tax increases would we be seeing long term? It’s all too good to be true honestly.

It's a democratic plan. Thankfully, Trump won't pass it. And it pains me to thank Trump for anything. I cant stand that man. But this isn't free money. We would have to pay that debt off eventually.

I doubt it. I live in Fl and they reopened the state purely because we are the stingy-est state when it comes to paying out unemployment 😒

I don’t think they will. I have mixed feelings on this. It would help alot of families get on track due to losing money and jobs during covid but at the same time there are people who are irresponsible and will be whining again that they are broke after that stops.
Just like $1700, there are people who spent money on stuff they don’t need but then couldn’t afford rent.

I do believe it would be really helpful to many people. We could use the money obviously, but we are both still working. So it is a lot of money when we are able to live on what we have.  I would use it to pay off my car quicker though, or put it away for an emergency. We would get $5,000 a month, that would pay off my car in no time or even pay down my student loans a good bit.  We don’t even bring that kind of money home working.

I really wish it would pass, I know a lot of people are rushing the reopen because so many of them have lost jobs and income and are really struggling. But I just know we're due for another spike. Places that have rushed back in are already experiencing a rise in infections. Unfortunately, I doubt it will pass. Even though we have officially beaten the record for unemployment; we have more unemployed citizens than during the great depression. Those are all people who have lost health benefits along with income. Also, I know this isn't free money. But I can definitely think of some waste areas we could cut to pay for it (cough cough wall cough cough).
