Is Covid really going to last up to 2 years?

My dad keeps being super negative while talking about Covid to me, saying it’s going to last up to 2 years and no one should be leaving their house for 2 years. He thinks people shouldn’t even be working except for nurses and doctors and won’t even go to the grocery store. I keep trying to tell him it’s not realistic for human beings to stay isolated for 2 years. Life still needs to go on. Of course we still need to be safe with the use of masks and social distancing but I am going to go to the store if I need to. I’m not going to sit inside and rot. Do you guys think it’ll still be like this two years from now?

The economy cannot survive shutdown that long and it isn’t feasible to hide from a virus that long, but the virus will definitely be around that long, if not longer. You didn’t just expect it to go away, did you?

Most people cant stay home for 2 years with no paycheck and in a depressed state of limbo.

There’s no way we can stay home for that long. HOWEVER, I definitely think this virus will be with us for a while. I think we’ll have outbreaks for a while... maybe 2 years, maybe more or less. I think that we’ll have that “second wave” they keep talking about. Which until that is controlled, I think social distancing should be on the forefront of everyone’s mind. Some people have to go in to work and that’s totally fine. I just think we need to try to distance ourselves from others when we are able and take all the precautions to protect ourselves and our families until they figure out the antibody situation and/or create and distribute a vaccine.

My friends daughters pediatrician told her not to be soo excessively worried about it because odds are most if not all people will eventually get covid. However, treatment for it will probably enhance once they can find out what works & overall just know more about the virus.

My mother in law is a respiratory therapist. She thinks we will be dealing with this for a decade or more. Considering they have been studying coronaviruses for hundreds of years and have never found an effective vaccine for it, they will most likely have a hard time finding a vaccine for this one as well. Hopefully it mutates enough to where it becomes less deadly and we find a good treatment for it, but I don't have high expectations for an effective vaccine. This will be around for a long time.

I do believe unnecessary travel and large gatherings (concerts, graduations, weddings, birthday parties, etc) will be sketchy/ potentially not allowed until a vaccine comes out which could be two years?

It’ll definitely last a long time, basically until a vaccine is proven effective and herd immunity is achieved. But we need to still live our lives. People that are high risk should be more careful but others need to live, work, and be relatively normal (while taking certain precautions of course).

I don’t think things will be going back to normal but life will have to continue as you mentioned no one can stay home for 2 years . I know states are going by stages to re open up . So things probably will never be the same for the time being but the economy can’t completely stop people can not just stay home you know how bad suicide rate would go up as it already has and also domestic violence and all kinds of other crimes

No way we will have to be inside for 2 years and I’m sure there will be a vaccine before then weather people get the vaccine or not is on them but I think life will go back to normal once we have one in my opinion. I know others think differently but that’s my opinion life has to go on people need to see their friends and family and need to go back to work the country can’t afford for people to not be working for 2 years that’s ridiculous
