Breastfeeding Journey
You guys, I just have to brag for a minute because this has been such a difficult journey for us. I never imagined something that’s supposed to be “natural” would be so hard.
As soon as my baby was born, she couldn’t latch because of my inverted nipples. She ended up losing a full pound from her birth weight and I had to pump and supplement in addition to using nipple shields. It was such a struggle and I was so sad. We also got thrush and couldn’t get rid of it for a month which made things even harder.
Then, at 2.5 months, she went on a crazy nursing strike and had a major aversion to breastfeeding. We ended up having to use a syringe with expressed milk to fill the nipple shield to get her to latch. It was so tedious and I’d have to do it multiple times a feed.
At 4 months, my supply was decreasing because of the breastfeeding struggles and my baby had lost weight since her last appointment at 2 months. I felt terrible because I didn’t realize she was losing weight. We had to start Celia to get her weight up.
Fast forward to today at 4.5 months. She has gained a full pound since our 4 month appointment. 2 days ago she accidentally knocked the nipple shield off and latched naturally. She has been feeding great ever since! She seems much happier and it’s sooo much easier. I tried to ditch the shields so many times before and it never worked. I am so happy and hopeful this will be the last of our supply and breastfeeding issues 😊🙏💕
So for anyone else struggling with breastfeeding, don’t lose hope!
