Comparing kids

Ri

Hi, I needed some input without talking to people close to us. First and foremost I was a teacher for many years and special needs teacher so I know the importance of never comparing children and how harmful it can be. Also my child is by no means gifted he is just awesome because we love him lol.

I have neices that are twins 9 months older then my son. We don't spend much time together but when we do I am finding them comparing my son to the girls. I am really concerned about this and have been from a young age with the girls. I am seeing signs that are concerning to me about their delay and also behavior. My mom asked me at one point what I think they should do. I asked not to be involved as I just want to be an Aunt and don't want to be anything but loving and not wanting to interject.

When we video chat right now because of quarantine. My brother and his wife are really pointing out all the differences in how the toddler's are playing, speaking, and eye contact. I am now at a point where I am concerned because I don't want my son to be a ruler for their kids. I am trying to be supportive and listen to their concerns. My sister in law said that she tried to get them into speech therapy but because of COVID for obvious reasons that isn't happening. I was making small talk and asked if their pediatrician had recommended anything meanwhile. She said she never asked him. My brother rolled his eyes at her and I could sense his frustration with the situation.

I do know of some things they can be doing but I am so cautious of overstepping. Also I really dislike the comparison between the toddlers. I am worried if they start to understand what adults around them are saying.

I am curious if anyone else has experienced this at all and how you handled it? These kiddos are bounded for life and I want so much to have the best relationships with eachother. My brother and I are working extremely hard to build a new adult relationship and I don't want it to go sour by comparison of kids or other people comparing them which I have also caught ear of.
