Y? Let him be and you get tour own life and find a good step daddy for your little one. This guy doesn’t matter in your life anymore, only in your little one. Look if you want an advice I say you let him be, and get along with the other girl cause she be the one watching over your child. 
I have a step D, and her mom instead of thanking me for watching, and taking care of her she gets upset cause I am now in her daughters life... she told me to but off 
In my thoughts is like hey get along with the other partner cause he/she is the one watching over him/her too. No don’t be best buddy, but have respect for the sake of your kids. 
My sons step mom was the best, and she loved and take care of my son and that’s all it matter to me. They are no longer together and that’s a bummer cause now the next I don’t know how she is going to treat my son. 
If the guys in no longer with you is because you guys are not meant to be. If it didn’t work when y’all were dating then it won’t work out when y’all are not. Eventually you and him will find the one.... best of luck!
