Are most people racist at a non intentional, subconscious level?
In my experience, most people think you are only racist if you engage in discrimination or hateful acts towards poc. But it can definitely be at a deeper level where people can subconsciously hold prejudice.
I feel a lot of people are “subconsciously racist” because they are uneducated. But is this excusable? Is it not their fault they hold prejudice because no one ever showed them otherwise? Or does everyone have a responsibility to educate themselves providing they have the tools, which most of us do?
I love that this conversation is happening at such a wide scale. It’s opened my eyes to so many things that I didn’t realise were racist, and a lot of people say them well intentioned, but I now understand why a lot of those things are wrong.
