How painful was it when IUD was removed?

Question

How much pain were you in and how long was your recovery post procedure? Do you normally have a high or low pain tolerance? Any weird symptoms that came up after? Don’t be afraid of over sharing, I’m not afraid of details about bodies 🤓

Getting the iud (I had mirena) inserted was a lot more painful than removing it. 
I just got mine out two weeks ago. There’s a little pinch when they take it out but I just did some slow exhalations (my doctor warned me before she took it out). Moderate cramping and very light bleeding the rest of the day and day after that. I’ve been fine ever since.

I didn’t get anything numbed. I have an okay pain tolerance and it was just uncomfortable the rest of the day. Kind of like dull cramps. It didn’t really hurt at all just felt uncomfortable. My friend got hers out recently and hers was actually lodged in and she said it was quite painful when they unlodged it (she has a low pain tolerance) and she had bad cramping for the next day and lots of bleeding. Another friend said it didn’t hurt that bad and had some cramping after (I’d say she had an average pain tolerance).

I had to remove mine myself due to my insurance being dropped and not being able to pay $600 to see my ob to have it removed. I legit felt a tug and that was it. They typically remove them right before your period is expected so that your cervix is soft. Having that one placed was way more painful than removal, and I didn’t even really feel the insertion of my mirena that I got 10 weeks pp this go around

Insert was a slightly long pinch of pain but overall ok.
My removal was a bit invasive requiring an ultrasound and my cervix dilated a bit and numbing shot given cuz it was an intense feeling and they had to reach far and grab it... It was painful and my doctor almost quit that route to consider other removal options... I went home with antibiotics and thankful my husband got his vasectomy and I’m done with B.C.
There was no indication that it wouldn’t be a 5 minute procedure until I was in place but it can happen 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I don’t think that mattered. I felt no pain when it was taken out, it was a very quick procedure. It took longer for my OBGYN to find the strings than it did to take it out. I had some spotting and light cramping afterwards, the only side effect I would say is having a normal period shortly after getting it removed because we are TTC and I didn’t start a new birth control. My period was pretty nonexistent with my IUD, so it was weird to experience a period again lol

For me it wasn’t painful at all! It was definitely easier getting it out! I also do have a very high pain tolerance though so I didn’t think it hurt when they were putting it in either.

I just felt a lot of pressure when my Dr. pulled it out and that was it. It wasn’t painful, just uncomfortable. I had some mild cramps for a few hours afterwards but I was completely fine after.

It was painful getting it in i cried and getting it out was still painful never again! Worst experience i had!! And prior to getting it i was a virgin maybe that’s why it hurt me so much. But my periods were unbearable almost two weeks long and so heavy. I now have the pill and barley any period 🙃
