Advice for a 1st time mom who grew up without parents?

I’m so so so excited about this pregnancy, but I feel growing up without a mom puts me at a disadvantage. I’ve got books in the mail and my midwife recommended some parenting classes, but I’d love to hear any first hand advice! I’ve had baby fever for 3 years so I’m over the moon right now, just want to make sure I do this right. Thanks, for any advice! I appreciate you!

If you’re asking, you’re going to be a great mom.  💜 I grew up with both parents, but I wouldn’t change many things about my childhood or parents. They taught me two things that I am taking to the bank: First, be honest with your kids, regardless of what the question is. Your kid trusting to talk to you is invaluable. Second, I am learning as an adult that my parents are/were just people. I think as children we imagine that adults have all the answers, and that they always make the right decision. I know now, of course, that isn’t the case. So, I show my kids that. I apologize if I’m wrong. My parents also said I can always express myself, even if I’m upset with them, as long as it’s in a respectful manner, and then they listened intently before responding. 
      With that said, there’s not one ‘right’ way to do it. Your style is going to be different than some, and parenting now is a lot different than it was even 10 years ago. It’s also different depending on your child. My 4 year old is so much different than my 1 year old. They don’t have different rules, but how we handle them is a little different. The one thing I do wish people had told me is that while you often have that immediate connection to your baby when they’re born, sometimes it takes a minute to get that magic to happen. It’s not always post partum depression, it’s just that you’re getting to know a whole new person. It was like that with my older daughter, and it wasn’t until later that I found out I wasn’t alone in that.
