At what point do you give up?

Question

I know i havent been trying for too long. We were lucky to conceive our first easily. 
We had a miscarriage in september (was due in may) and soooooo many people i know were also due in may and now they all have their babies.
We just had a chemical pregnancy in may now...... 
I kind of feel like its a sign.... what are the chances of being due in may and then having a miscarriage,  and then a chemical  pregnancy the month i was due? 
Maybe we only get 1 kid? 
Just feeling really down after hearing so many people announcing mistake pregnancies and hearing another person i know also had a baby may. 
I just wonder when you know its time to give up/when the universe is telling you its not gonna happen

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler before considering giving up. That book was a lifesaver for me. Still TTC, but I’m much more hopeful now than I ever was over the last 3 years we’ve been trying with PCOS. I had one chemical in May 2017 and nothing since.
We decided we would try until I turn 30. By then, it will have been 8 years TTC. At that point, we’ll pursue adoption or becoming foster parents. We both decided we won’t do IUI, sperm donor, or IVF because it’s expensive and it’s not guaranteed to work. We’d rather put that money towards something else. 
I’m on my 5th cycle TTC using the Fertility Awareness Method, which I learned from reading that book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Looking back, I realized that the main reason we haven’t gotten pregnant is due to poor timing. The last cycle we completely missed my window, and the cycle before that I had an issue with my luteal phase due to using Red Raspberry Leaf (btw - don’t use that shit). So really, this is more like our 3rd cycle of actively planning sex during my fertile phase.

I’m over 35, but our plan is try for the recommended 6 months. Then if not pregnant, go to the doctor . Depending on what doc says consider that or go to a specialist. Someone is going to have to tell em IVF is your only option before we give up

It can feel like you're alone and the journey can be hard but it's different for everyone and lots of women have struggles. 
My first was conceived easily - we weren't even trying. 
We started trying for a second when he was 2. It took 8 months to conceive and I lost the pregnancy at 10 weeks. 
It then took a whole 13 more months to conceive again and then I lost that pregnancy at 12 weeks. 
At that point I felt like I was the only person in the world that that would happen to. We even started fertility investigations. 
5 months later I was pregnant again and now have a happy healthy toddler with a 5 year 3 months age gap between kids. 
I'm now pregnant with our 3rd. We were not trying. 
My point is - it happens when it happens. Don't give up. You're not alone.

We have decided that we will try for five years at max. We also know what reproductive assistance we are and aren't okay with. After the five years, if we are still trying, we will either decide to be childfree or seek other routes to parenthood. We are currently 2/5 of the way there.

At what point do you give up?
