Defunding police and police free schools?

Okay so I’ve been watching the news, and people are protesting for defunding the cops and having police free schools. Coming from a students prospective, That is absolutely insane. We have soooo many school shootings that we need cops on campus. They are also trying to defund the police which is stupid because they barely have enough money funding them as of now. What are your guy’s opinions?

How many times has a cop on campus actually stopped a school shooter? Cause most of the time it’s the students or teachers that prevent or stop them. Please do more research on what defunding the police actually means, they get billions, so reallocating some of that money into the community where it’s necessary to lower crime rates is a must.

I feel like they don’t need to defund the police but they need to better regulate where the funding goes. Like putting funding towards stricter and longer hiring processes, better mental health and emotional stability checks, better academy and field training versus buying up to date vehicle, new uniforms regularly, new weapons regularly.

And wouldn’t you rather just stop school shootings since it seems to be an almost strictly US problem

I am a teacher in an inner city school district that is very diverse. Not having police officers in our school would have a negative impact on my elementary students. Our city police officers have developed and maintained great relationships with our kids. I see them interacting with our kids’ community in a positive way when I drive through the city. Our officers recognize students outside of school. And yes, we have had to call the police into our school for reasons involving adults (parents not teachers). We need them. We (our kids) need relationships with them. What we don’t need is abuse of power; you will always have a bad seed in any line of work.

We need a reform and longer training especially for the academy. How is 6 months enough? There needs to be clear outlines for defunding the police IMO.
