Has anyone done an externship as a MA?

If so, when you reach the externship in your program, do they give you the option to choose your specialty? Can you decline certain externships? How was your experience?

YEARS ago when I was going to externship she gave me 3places to chose from. Not everywhere was taking externship at the time. So it was very few. But I got hired on the spot a week in.

I was able to choose what I wanted. I got put in the pediatric division of a hospital. I guess it all depends on what school you go to and who you speak to. I specifically let them know I wanted to be either in an OBGYN office or pediatrics.
