Weaning off the nipple shield?

How did you wean off the shield? I don’t mind if we have to use it because I’m happy she’s at least breastfeeding, but it would be easier than fighting her not to punch it off while she’s latching. 🙃

I weaned my first baby from the shield at 10 weeks. He started refusing it one day and was struggling to latch so out of frustration I ripped it off and he latched no problem. We never wore one again and he nursed for 22 months

For us it worked to let him start with the shield and once he had worked on my nipple a bit, I could remove the shield when he took a break. My nipple would be “up” a bit more versus flat and then he could continue eating. Soon I didn’t need it at all as baby had figured it out and my nipples seem to have gotten to where I needed them.

With my first I used it for maybe two weeks. Then one day I wasn’t wearing it yet and leaned over her and she somehow got my nipple in her mouth and latched without issues!

I don't remember when exactly I did it with my first, but I would offer without the shield first. Eventually one day he latched and ate just fine
