Did you grow up with your dad in your household? If so has it effected your relationships with men?

Yes my parents are still together and I grew up with my dad in my life and it taught me how I didn’t want to be treated.

My dad is a controlling patriarch. I watched him boss my mom around my entire life and was raised that if he asks me to do something, I do it and don’t question it. 
After 38 years of his marriage to my mom, he is leaving her for another woman. He has been cheating on her for over 11 years (that’s how much proof we have- could be longer). 
Due to his horrible personality - I made sure to find someone opposite of him.

He was there, and I wish he never had Been. Having a father at home is not always as stabilizing as you think.

He was there until I was 16, then left and didn’t talk to anyone for 5 years and has now been back in my life for 4 years.... it has DEFINITELY affected my relationships.

He was there and provided for us like a father should. He is a good husband to my mom and father to his kids, but he isn't a great dad if y'all know what I mean. Never really talked with him and he never tried to bond with us.
Now that me and my sister are older (21 and 25)I think it's a little easier to talk and spend time with him

My dad tried his best to be a good father but the feud he had with my mother growing up always got in the way a bit.. and my family on my moms side constantly telling me from a young age about his bad past with women and how he mistreated them affected my view on him and men. My moms constant change in partner and always being there for her to vent to (she was a single mom and I was the oldest.. I helped raise my brothers) affected my view of men. I was really distant with the idea of love and affection until I met my boyfriend and I also sought out therapy to help me with my parent issues. My dad is a changed man and he made mistakes but he’s also improve himself a lot. I had to learn to separate the past and present

My father died when I was four, it left me looking for manly affection and attention. I went from guy to guy to guy to guy looking for it. I’m now 41 and I am now realizing that I have daddy issues. The man I have been dating for the last eight months, resembles my dad, gives me that fatherly feeling, he’s 45, has kids of his own, and he feels like home. He gives you that fatherly, protective, safe￼ feeling. When I told him in the beginning that he reminded me of my dad, he took it as a bad thing like a kick to the ego, but that was the initial draw to him. Sometimes I joke around and call him Papi but that’s a Latina thing too. But growing up without a father left a void. Unfortunately. Having or not having a man in our lives growing up, molds the way we see the world, how we choose men, men that are like our father, men that resemble your father, men who treat you the way that your mother was treated. Your example of what a loving relationship is supposed to be your parents. However a lot of us grow up in broken homes where absent fathers happen or the relationship had domestic issues like abuse, whether that was verbal or physical or he was an alcoholic or drug addict or cheated. And those issues follow us. Sometimes we develop trust issues or insecurities or a fear of abandonment or become clingy or needy or have commitment issues etc. because of what happened when we were a child or because of what happened in our previous relationships. But if we learn to grow, forgive and heal, and don’t allow our past to sabotage our current and future relationships by letting thing go, forgiving ourselves for decisions that we made, forgiving those who hurt us, not to their face, but to yourself, not because they deserve it, but because you deserve peace within and they are no longer going to be the reason for your unhappiness. You can’t blame someone new  for someone else’s faults. That’s not fair to them. You are only robbing yourself of happiness because you can’t let things go. And you deserve better than that. Choose happiness, choose yourself, date yourself, pamper yourself, learn to love, accept , and embrace yourself flaws and all because life is what you make it. If you aren’t happy you change what you can, and what you can’t change you figure it out one day at a time.

My dad was there and my mom left. I don’t have a mother daughter relationship that I’ve always wanted. I feel that it has greatly affected me.

I truly feel so blessed to have a father who consistently loved and stayed with not only me, but my mother as well. I know I'm fortunate because not everyone can say they had their dad around. I'll always be a daddy's girl. I look up to him and appreciate all the amazing things he has done for me. He's always been there to support me, encourage me, make me laugh, and just watch me grow. He's definitely shown me how a true man should act and to never settle for less.
