What would make you want to hire a photographer?

I’ve been trying to build a photography business for the past three years and it’s gotten no where. Nobody will hire. Not sure what else to try. Any advice before I give up?

I’d want to see pictures of previous work. If you haven’t already, find some friends or family to take pictures of and work on how to take good pictures and how to edit them. Many photographers that don’t get many clients use “out of date” editing techniques. You can take different photoshop and other editing courses, some are even free. You may do some sales or giveaways to gain followers on Facebook and Instagram. “Like my page, share this post, and comment when done to be entered into a drawing for a free mini session” or something will help draw followers. 
I also look for someone who does quality work at a price I can afford. Some people can afford $500+ for family pictures. I, myself, cannot. So you should reflect your skill and experience level within your prices. 
I’ve worked with photography and videography on an amateur level, but practice on my daughter. Lots and lots of practice with taking her pictures and editing. Just from posting good pictures of her consistently, I’ve had people reach out. Be persistent and don’t give up!

Referrals. Testimonials. Portfolio. Professionalism. Evidence that they are good at editing photos, have experience with posing, are charging appropriately based on their experience and quality of their work

Do you have a portfolio? Maybe you just need more practice. I always look at a photographer’s work to see the quality and if I like their style.

I’m a photographer, I offer volunteer shoots for certain things in exchange for word of mouth and promotion. I make sure I update my FB and IG , I give offers, I try to have a diverse set as in location, edits , types of shoots. 
I had just started just before the shut down so it was hard. But I’m trying to get back out there. I’m apart of a FB group in my town too.

Most photographers I know focus on families or couples (engagement, wedding, pregnancy, newborn, 6 months, cake smash). 
I recently hired a photographer. I found her because she donated a 30 minute session to a charity auction, and while I didnt win the auction, I checked out her page and liked her style. Get involved in the community, it gets your name out there.
Most people prefer if the photographer has their own studio or exclusive space. My sister turned down a reasonable photographer for her newborn pictures because the woman didn't have a space, and would need to use my sister's home. 
Props are sometimes good, especially with kids.

Photo quality. That’s all. 
Even if the prices were high, I’d pay more for better quality. I wouldn’t pay anything for bad quality.
