Why have some of you opted out of getting your cervix checked? Ftm and I just thought it was a routine thing.

To everyone saying it “introduces” bacteria and infection. That’s false and a myth. Does sex introduce bacteria to your vagina? Your doctors office is pretty much a sterile environment and your doctors should be wearing gloves, masks, and using sterile equipment at all time. If not, you should be worried in general about your doctors office. In my opinion, getting your cervix checked didn’t hurt at all. I get that you can stay at the same dilation and effacement for weeks but it is nice knowing if you’re progressing from week to week. With my first, if I didn’t get checked I would have totally expected to go beyond 40 weeks which is very common for FTM but I was dilating and effacing increasingly over each week and sure enough, I ended up having my first baby at 38 weeks. Also my doctor was able to tell me “you’re most likely not going to make it to 40 weeks”. I personally don’t get why you wouldn’t want to know how you’re body is doing?

Because it means nothing, it hurts, and can introduce bacteria where it doesn’t need to be.

There's no need to check your cervix until you're in labor (even then you don't have to) it introduces bacteria and can cause infections

My Dr doesn't even do it till labor because it puts me and baby at risk for infection. It's not necessary in most cases anyway. We naturally are curious and want to know if we may be close to labor, but the state of our cervix very often doesn't tell us much about when it will happen anyway unless we're VERY dilated or effaced, in which case we would already be in labor.

I just don’t like strangers inside my vagina if they don’t NEED to be there. But I also have a history of sexual assault, and sometimes I panic, even in a pap. The checks aren’t actually useful anyway!

37 w- this is the first time they offered, said no, they said it didn’t matter anyways cause you can be dialated for weeks anyways so it somewhat means nothingg. They would like to check at 38w and strip my membranes however
