black history
i was thinking yesterday, because it was juneteenth that i never learned about it in school. i had a convo w my dad whose black and we just talked about how schools have always failed minority history. during black history month at my school we just repeatedly learned about MLK and Rosa Parks. i didn’t even know what juneteenth was until a couple of years ago.
i just think that in schools kids need to have conversations about black history. even if it is uncomfortable. if i ever have kids i want them to grow up educated about black peoples struggles. i want them to know about the police brutality, and our history. we need to have these “uncomfortable” talks for people to be aware of what they’re doing when they’re older.
not only that but black culture. there’s so much about black history that even my dad and i don’t know. it’s so sad.
what black history did you learn in school?
