Would you stay with an alcoholic?

Depends, are the abusive? Can’t hold a job? Cold and nasty?
Or are they self medicating for anxiety or depression and willing to get help? A functioning alcoholic? And otherwise a good partner and/father?
The answer to these matter.

My Mum tried to help my Dad who was an alcoholic throughout their 9 year marriage. He went to rehab twice and came out both times and went to the pub. It got to a point where she had to think of and my siblings and what was best for us. He was never abusive luckily. Unfortunately, it finally killed him 18th June 2003 aged 45. I think, from my experience, u can't help someone who doesn't see that they have a problem.

Alcohol is a pretty big no for me. I don’t like and would try to avoid being with someone who drank on a regular basis. I cannot handle alcoholism so I would say no unless they recognized it early on and were eager to get help.

No. I did for many years and at the end of the day, I ended up leaving anyways. I wasted so much time...I still kick myself daily for it. Some of the best years of my life...poof. Gone.
The lying, the sneaking, the disappearing money from our savings, coming home gin soaked and fueled by rage, the arguments, the AA meetings followed by the inevitable relapse, the incoherent laye night talks, the embarrassment, the inability to make plans that stick....the utter stupidity of it all.  
It's not worth it. My advice to you is to run as fast as you possibly can.

I'd try to get them help. My grandfather became an alcoholic after his first wife and daughter were murdered and he was never able to get over it. But he also had no real support and I think that's why he eventually died from it. I would have to at least try to get them to seek help and be as supportive as I could be. Addictions are hard as hell to over come. Even more so if they're fueled by a traumatic event. And a strong support system can make all the difference

If it was just me and they were willing to get help, I’d stay and see if they’d do so. If I had children with them, I’d be removing us from the situation and putting the ball in my husbands court to either get help and be a family again or continue the way he is. I have a MIL who is an alcoholic and I know what my husband went through and witnessed as a child and I would NEVER want that for my own kids.

My ex was an alcoholic. He was also abusive I remember thinking if he quits drinking he’ll be nicer to me. I was in for a surprise when his abuse wasn’t alcohol related.
