Did anyone SO not stay the whole time at hospital when you gave birth?

I'm due January 4 and it looks like my husband will have to stay overnight at home with our youngest. If anyone has done this was it hard? I don't want him missing that time but the only person capable of watching our LO is his sister but she would have to travel with her husband and 3 kids and I don't exactly want to come back to the partridge family after giving birth lol.
*Asking if it was hard emotionally for dad not to be there. This is our third baby so I'm not worrying at all about taking care of baby through the night. Our hospital is allowing birth partner to come and go, but i am feeling bad knowing husband will be missing those nights.

No it wasnt. We were in the hospital 3 nights once she was born and he slept at home after the first night. It was our first baby but we have 4 dogs and decided its be best if he could take care of them and get some sleep rather than both of us being tired all day. He was excited to come back of course but be didnt mind not being there. And this was for our first baby.

I’m expecting #8 and my SO only stayed with me overnight with our first. Every baby after he left after we got situated in our room to go care for our other children. My last delivery was pretty painful and I was struggling so bad I wish I had someone with me but all the other times I was fine. My mom also works at our hospital so she would visit me 3 times during the day I had to stay then I’d be discharged by 24 hours so wasn’t a huge deal. All vagina deliveries though, If I had a c section I think I’d be singing a different tune. My SO says it’s ok he’s going to have plenty of time with the baby and it’s just a few hours so he’s never been upset about leaving.

I’m also about to have my third baby and we are going to be in the same situation. I am 37 weeks and don’t have anybody to watch my kids yet. It’s stressing me out along with my husband not being able to be there the whole time. He said as long as he is there for delivery, the rest is ok. Idk if that’s how he really feels but that’s all he tells me. I still feel bad about him having to miss out

My husband had to work the first time. We had an unexpected arrival of our twins. And he was on call so he had to go to the hospital to work and just come when he got off. It sucked but was doable. When our third came I wanted him with the kiddos at home so he went home at night and came to me during the day.

If you have a vaginal birth, you'll be fine. If you have a c section, it's going to be tough, I won't lie. I wasn't able to get up when the baby cried to tend to the baby and lift her up out of the hospital bassinet. If you happen to get a slow night, the nurses can help you, but if it's a busy night, it's likely going to be a problem. Also you can request an early discharge with a vaginal birth. I went home next day.

Find out if baby rooms in with you at your hospital. I was induced and had an epidural so my legs were a little unstable at first, baby room in where I delivered and I wouldn’t have been able to get up and down carrying baby back and forth at least for the first night (he was born at 550pm, we didn’t transfer to our room until 9ish). If baby goes to a nursery I feel like it would be more do-able alone. We’re lucky to have both sets of our parents close and we can trust them to watch our first, he will be having some sleep overs to help prep before December.

We did this. My husband and I are teachers and my daughter was born shortly before we were out for Christmas break which is a hectic time for a HS teacher/coaches. My husband coaches basketball, and our daughter was born at 11:30am on a Monday. He was with me through my whole 15 hour birth and then had to leave us in the hospital about 3pm, to go to basketball practice that evening & feed our dogs at home. He came back and spent the night with us the first night. Let me also add that I had family and friends visiting, so I wasn’t alone when he left for practice. The next morning he left pretty early to go back home & feed our dogs & get to work. That night he had an away basketball game & wouldn’t be back til the next day (Wednesday). I arranged for my mom to come up that morning, shortly after he left, and spend the day & night with me. I also had several family and friends visit so again, I wasn’t alone. Wednesday the day we went home, I wasn’t getting discharged until 12pm, so my husband took a half day (he worked that morning and then got off at 12) and picked us up to take us home. My mom was with me this whole time as well. I also could have been discharged that Tuesday afternoon and gone home, but I chose to stay the second day in the hospital. My insurance covered 2 nights, the “room service” style food was good, and I learned SO much from all of my nurses and the LC’s who came into see me! I actually loved being in the hospital 😂

I would not want to be alone at the hospital. Even with a vaginal delivery, my son cried and cried the entire first night. Nothing we did calmed him down and they don’t really take the baby anymore to the nursery in some cases. They did in ours as we had been up so long and I was in a lot of pain. I really can’t imagine doing it by myself that first night.
